Notice periods: the law explained

It is a legal requirement for both an employer and employee to provide the other with minimum periods of notice to terminate the contract of employment, often referred to as ‘statutory notice’.  It is important to note that you can stipulate longer notice periods for both parties in a contract of employment.  This Business Guide (BG) provides information on those minimum notice periods and also seeks to answer questions around notice periods generally.
