NFU Cymru writes to Macmillan Cancer Support regarding Meat Free March

Following a number of calls from members, NFU Cymru has written to Macmillan Cancer Support raising concerns over their promotion of Meat Free March. Read the letter in full below...

Dear Lynda Thomas

I am writing to you on behalf of NFU Cymru members to express my disappointment at Macmillan Cancer Support’s decision to run the ‘Macmillan Meat Free March’ fundraising campaign.

Since promotion of this campaign started appearing during the month of January, the union has received calls from a large number of members across Wales expressing their upset at this initiative. Many of the people I have spoken to describe themselves as Macmillan supporters and, in some cases, have raised not insignificant sums for your charity.

I understand that Macmillan Cancer Support has recently taken the decision to no longer actively promote ‘Macmillan Meat Free March’ – and we welcome that decision - but I do not think this action alone is enough. I urge the charity to further reconsider its position and withdraw this campaign in its entirety.
