Welsh Gower Salt Marsh Lamb first new registration under new UK GI scheme

11 August 2021

Gower Salt Marsh Lamb has today officially joined the club of UK’s most iconic products.

NFU Cymru President John Davies said: “We are delighted that the first registration under the new UK Geographical Indication (GI) designation system is for a unique and distinctive Welsh product. This is recognition of the hard work of the Pritchard family and the specific qualities of Gower Salt Marsh Lamb.

“We are pleased that this distinctive product will sit alongside the other wonderful Welsh food products that already carry GI status (such as PGI Welsh Beef and Lamb, and Pembrokeshire earlies).

"It is great to see that under the new UK geographical indicators scheme, an iconic Welsh product is being protected, recognising the quality of the food we produce here in Wales and we know the importance of GIs in helping to grow markets both in the UK and overseas. Ensuring that these products receive protection in any future trade deal should be a priority for the UK Government, so consumers can enjoy authentic Welsh and British products with confidence.”
