NFU Cymru response - National milestones and indicators

27 October 2021

Welsh Government has consulted on national milestones and indicators to measure our nation’s progress.  The milestones will help Welsh Government assess progress towards the seven Well-Being goals set out in the Well-Being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

Welsh Government also sought views on the existing national indicators and whether these should be revised following the experiences of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

NFU Cymru has long highlighted the need for Welsh Government to include within the suite of National indicators, an indicator that reflects our ability to feed ourselves as a nation.  We are clear that the lessons learned as a result of COVID-19 make this need more pressing than ever.

Welsh Government should have higher regard of the contribution that domestic food production has towards our food security.  COVID-19 impacts on our food supply chains have served to highlight that it is a matter of strategic national interest to ensure that our country can feed itself.   Read the full NFU Cymru response here.
