Search is on for 28th Wales Woman Farmer of the Year

NFU Cymru, along with sponsor NFU Mutual, is once again launching the search for a winner of the Wales Woman Farmer of the Year Award.

Now in its 28th year, the NFU Cymru/NFU Mutual Wales Woman Farmer of the Year competition aims to celebrate the contribution of women in the Welsh farming industry.The winner of the NFU Cymru/NFU Mutual Wales Woman Farmer of the Year 2026 award will receive £500 and a Welsh Royal Crystal bowl. The closing date for nominations is Friday 29 May 2026. The award will be presented on Thursday 23rd July on the NFU Cymru stand at the Royal Welsh Show. 

NFU Cymru Deputy President Paul Williams, who will be one of this year’s judges, said:

“The Wales Woman Farmer of the Year Award is there to champion the contribution that women make to farming businesses and wider rural life.

Over the many years we’ve been holding this prestigious award, we’ve had a variety of winners, all representing different sectors and parts of the farming industry, and we look forward to receiving applications for the 2026 title and celebrating this great award.”

Award criteria

The NFU Cymru/NFU Mutual Wales Woman Farmer of the Year Award will be awarded to the woman who can demonstrate:

  • The part played to make the farm enterprise a successful business
  • Any contribution made to champion the industry and, in particular, the role of women in farming
  • Involvement in local community life and in other organisations.

The winner of the NFU Cymru/NFU Mutual Wales Woman Farmer of the Year 2026 award will receive £500 and a Welsh Royal Crystal bowl.

Nominate or apply

Nominations are invited throughout Wales. Female farmers are invited to nominate themselves or can be nominated by a friend, relative or organisation.

If you are interested in entering, or know someone who you think is worthy of a nomination for the title of Wales Woman Farmer of the Year 2026, there are three ways to apply:

  1. Fill out the online form below.
  2. Download the application form and email the completed form to [email protected] or by post to NFU Cymru, Agriculture House, Royal Welsh Showground, Llanelwedd, Powys, LD2 3TU
  3. Call the NFU Cymru office on 01982 554200 to request a hard copy of the form.

The closing date for the competition is Friday 29 May 2026. The award will be presented on Thursday 23 July on the NFU Cymru stand at the Royal Welsh Show.

Please briefly describe the farm or business, including location, size and main enterprises that the nominee is involved with.

What is the nominee’s vision for the future, for their farm or business over next 5-10 years and how do they see the wider industry developing? Things to consider include: sustainability, innovation, succession planning, resilience or community impact.

Please explain what makes this individual or business stand out. You may wish to include achievements or milestones, leadership or innovation, contribution to the farming industry or rural community and any challenges overcome.
