This year’s event, titled ‘Welsh Farming: Growing Forward’ will once again be held at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells from 10am on Thursday 6 November and will focus on the growth of Welsh farming in the face of political, climatic and global changes.

Aled Jones
NFU Cymru President
Aled has previously held a variety of positions across the industry, including holding the post of Chairman of milk recording company Cattle Information Services (CIS) for seven years and being a trustee of Holstein UK for eight years.
Huw Irranca-Davies MS
Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, Welsh Government
Huw worked for many years in public and private sector leisure management and as a Senior Lecturer in Higher Education before entering politics.
In February 2002 he was elected as the Labour MP for Ogmore. He was duly elected to the Assembly (now Senedd Cymru) in 2016 representing Ogmore.
Huw was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs in March 2024 and was later appointed Deputy First Minister in September, in addition to retaining responsibility for Climate Change and Rural Affairs matters.
Karen Betts OBE
Chief Executive Officer, Food & Drink Federation (FDF)
Before joining the SWA, Karen was a diplomat in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for 16 years, where she held a variety of posts in London and overseas, including as British Ambassador to Morocco and non-resident Ambassador to Mauritania, and Counsellor to the British Embassy in Washington. She was also posted to the UK's Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels and the British Embassy in Baghdad.
In London, she served in the Cabinet Office and on the staff of the Joint Intelligence Committee, as well as in several roles in the Foreign Office. Before joining government, Karen was a lawyer at Clifford Chance, working in London and Hong Kong. Karen was an Adviser to the UK Government’s Board of Trade from 2019 to 2024 and a Trustee of FareShare. She received an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2022 for services to international trade.
Sarah Bradbury
Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD)
Throughout her career, Sarah has held senior commercial and marketing positions, including her previous role as Group Quality Director at Tesco. There, she was responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality safe products, sustainability, agriculture and regulatory compliance. It was in this role that Sarah honed her passion for driving collaborative change, mobilising the food and consumer goods sectors as a force for good, and working to improve the food system for the long term.
Francie Gorman
President, Irish Farmers' Association (IFA)
He previously served as IFA Regional Chair for South Leinster and as Chair of Laois IFA.
A beef and sheep farmer from Ballinakill in Co Laois, Francie Gorman has also represented Laois IFA on the National Farm Business Committee.
Francie represents 72,000 members negotiating with The Irish Government and the EU Commission on all farming issues including the Common Agricultural Policy, Nitrates Action Programme, international trade deals, climate change and much more.
Dr Peter Noy
Director, Food Systems Institute, University of Nottingham
Pete has held leadership roles in the University of Nottingham’s flagship AgriFood initiatives since 2018, first the Future Food Beacon (2018-2023) and then the Food Systems Institute (2023-present). These initiatives have driven both fundamental and practical research knowledge in agricultural productivity, from on-farm technology adoption to soil management to the development of resilient crop and livestock systems to the advancement of future agricultural technologies.
His current role oversees four interdisciplinary research centres that integrate more than 250 academic staff across more than 20 disciplinary schools at the University of Nottingham.
Dr Jac Larner

Abi Reader
NFU Cymru Deputy President
The farm is home to milking cows, sheep, beef cattle and around 120 acres of arable. Abi is a co-founder of Cows on Tour, an Open Farm Sunday host and a former NFU Cymru Wales Woman Farmer of the Year. In 2019 she was honoured by the Queen with an MBE for her services to agriculture.
