Ifan Evans, Chairman of NFU Cymru Mid Gwynedd County Branch from Saron near Llanwnda, came up with the idea to run a donation scheme.
As the situation in Ukraine turns increasingly serious there are predictions that 18 million people will be affected and four million will be displaced.
Over a two-week period from the 14th to the 28th of March anyone attending the mart will be able to make a cash contribution, contribute a percentage from the sale of stock or by donating an animal for sale towards the appeal.
Donations welcome
John Lloyd of Lloyd Williams & Hughes said:
“When Ifan came to talk to us, we wanted to try and be able to help with such a sad cause. The pictures we've seen of the situation in the Ukraine are quite shocking. We felt it was right and proper to do something to help. Therefore, we are asking anyone who wants to donate to let us know when they bring in stock so we can keep a record of any donation they wish to make.”
Ifan Evans added: “The nature of what we have seen in recent weeks highlights how quickly one's circumstances can change. Ukraine is known as a strong crop-producing country that supplies our industry. When running a voluntary donation scheme like this, everyone has the option to give something, if they feel like doing so. While the impact of the war is affecting our daily lives, the severity of its impact on families in the Ukraine is heart-breaking.
“Any contributions from vendors are appreciated, no matter how small; the smallest contribution does make a real difference.”
