Discrimination means treating someone unfairly because of a certain characteristic, such as age, or gender and is a complex area of employment law. The legislation which covers this area is the Equality Act 2010. It is unlawful to discriminate against a person not only in the workplace, but also in everyday life, such as when providing a service.
In this Business Guide (BG) we go into more detail around who is protected, the different types of discrimination and detrimental treatment the act protects from specifically in the workplace.
