The NFU has launched a livestock transport and welfare survey to build a true picture of transport times and welfare considerations of animals during transport.
Government ministers have an interest in livestock transport, which includes a commitment to end the export of live animals for slaughter. The NFU is gathering data on livestock journey times to help assess the impact on the supply chain should journey times be reduced. The NFU’s objective is to maintain the industry’s access to as many markets as possible and this could include live exports.
Data collected will help us build a better understanding of the supply chain and the importance of maintaining a diverse range of marketing options. We want to see the current transport regulations maintained while we work to develop industry guidance to further improve welfare outcomes during transport.
The livestock transport and welfare survey will run from 7th October to 9th November 2020. For any queries, please contact TkZVbGl2ZXN0b2NrQG5mdS5vcmcudWs=
