On 9th April 2019 Welsh Government launched a consultation on tenancy reform putting forward proposals for reform of agricultural tenancy law in Wales which could remove perceived barriers to productivity and facilitate structural change in the tenant farming sector. Defra are running a similar consultation in England.
Welsh Government is also calling for evidence and views on two matters which will inform future policy direction for the agricultural tenanted sector:
- Whether current restrictions on agricultural mortgages are a barrier to landowners wishing to let land; and
- Whether there is a need to introduce additional measures into repossession proceedings to provide protection for farm businesses borrowers who are unable to meet finance payments.
The full consultation which closes on 2 July 2019 can be accessed here.
