Need more information on Glastir?

07 Sep 2010
Members of the Llanrwst NFU Cymru group branches needing more information on the new agri-environment scheme Glastir are invited to an on-farm meeting at Cwmlanerch, Betws-y-Coed on Friday, 17 September 2010.

Starting at 2.00pm Dr Glenda Thomas from FWAG Cymru, Elliw Evans from Farming Connect and NFU Cymru’s Policy Adviser Dafydd Jarrett, will give details on the prescriptions available to gain sufficient points for the all-Wales element of the Glastir Scheme – which will come into effect on 1 January 2012.

Glastir will replace the Tir Mynydd, Tir Cynnal, Tir Gofal and Organic Farming Schemes. The application packs for the new scheme will be issued by the Welsh Assembly Government from 4 October and farmers will have until 22 November to return their completed application forms.

Paul Williams, NFU Cymru’s Llanrwst Group Secretary said, “We have had countless queries off farmers who are concerned about Glastir so this meeting will be of great benefit to our members. It is an important issue for local NFU Cymru members and presents an ideal opportunity to find out more about the prescriptions available which will determine whether or not farm businesses can enter the scheme. There is also an opportunity for farmers to sign up to an 80 per cent Farming Connect grant, which can be used to assist with consultations for scheme eligibility. I do hope we will get a good turnout. Please also encourage your friends and neighbours to come along.”

For those farmers requiring assistance with form completion, NFU Cymru has made arrangements with FWAG Cymru to assist members. Members requiring such assistance can sign up at the event. Those unable to attend should contact their local NFU Cymru Group Secretary as soon as possible to ensure that their needs are prioritised with FWAG Cymru.
