Anglesey YFC’s recent Shearing Competition was a ‘cut’ above the rest thanks to £200 sponsorship from NFU Cymru Anglesey.
Dewi Jones, Chairman of NFU Cymru on Anglesey, said, “The local YFC shearing competition is on the way up. We at NFU Cymru are very proud to be associated with the young farmers. Their shearing skills are going from strength to strength.”
Elin Jones, Anglesey YFC organiser, said, “We have faith that our shearing team will go far this year and have a chance to win the national championship at next month’s Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells. As well as the competition element, there’s usually a great atmosphere at these events which also act as social get-togethers.”
The Anglesey Shearing competition was held at Castellior Farm, Menai Bridge, thanks to farmers Wyn and Dylan Jones. The Young Farmers class was won by Iestyn Dafydd, Penmynydd Club, in the 26 and under group; whilst the 21 and under group was won by Gareth Roberts, Dwyran Club. They will go on to represent Anglesey at the Royal Welsh Show. The open class was also won by Iestyn Dafydd with Daniel Jones in second and Martin Hughes in third.
