Forty percent of strokes could be avoided if high blood pressure is controlled – but how many of us know our blood pressure? NFU Cymru offered the visitors to its stand at this week’s Anglesey County Show the chance to have their blood pressure checked for free.
NFU Cymru has teamed up with The Stroke Association Wales, its chosen charity for 2010, to offer free blood pressure tests, throughout the show season, as part of the charity’s ‘Know Your Blood Pressure Campaign’. Dewi Jones, Anglesey NFU Cymru County Chairman said, “The free blood pressure check at Anglesey County Show aimed to bring attention to the causes of stroke, the biggest of which is high blood pressure.” Bridget Stadden, The Stroke Association’s Fundraising Manager for Wales said, “We know that high blood pressure is the biggest risk factor for stroke and that around 40 per cent of all strokes could be prevented if people with undiagnosed high blood pressure were identified and treated. The Know Your Blood Pressure campaign has been developed to raise awareness about high blood pressure and to offer free blood pressure readings, advice and information to people. We hope that through the Know Your Blood Pressure campaign we can help to prevent strokes and save lives.”
