A new top line for NFU dairy board

24 Mar 2010

The NFU held its dairy board elections today to elect a national board Chairman and Vice-chairman. mansel-raymond

Mansel Raymond, from Pembrokeshire, has been elected national dairy board Chairman. Mr Raymond farms 2,900 acres in partnership with his twin brother Meurig. They have two dairy herds plus followers and a herd of beef cattle.

On being elected Mr Raymond, said, “I am hugely passionate about dairy farming and am delighted to be voted in as the national dairy board Chairman. Having been Chairman of the Welsh milk board for eight years I now look forward to working closely with the national board.

“One of my first tasks as Chairman will be to look ahead to the next five to ten years, identify the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead and ensure that the industry is ready and able to meet them head on. An important part of this will be building on the momentum that we have created with our contracts campaign, furthering our work on dedicated chains and generally striving to create the right environment for our members to be successful and profitable.”

In congratulating Mr Raymond, NFU Cymru President Ed Bailey said, “We have been fortunate enough to have had the benefit of Mansel’s skills within NFU Cymru for the past eight years as dairy board Chairman, now his skills will be utilised on behalf of dairy farmers throughout Wales and England.”

Nigel Stacey, from Buckinghamshire, has been elected as vice chairman. Mr Stacey milks 180 cows in partnership with his wife Sarah. Both will serve a two year term.
