Making the Most of Soils for Grassland

03 Feb 2012

A practical one day course for farming families

22 February 2012

Teile, Bwchllan, Lampeter. SA48 8QR

Why?

  • Soil compaction: Reduces grass yield - cost £100-£200/ha & reduces response to fertilizer by up to 50% - doubling the cost of production
  • Planned applications of manures & fertilzers: Save money - in 2011 a Farming Connect Demonstration farm saved £4000 on fertilizer by following GDC nutrient management plan

Participants will:

  • Find out how texture, structure and soil health affect grassland production
  • Learn how to use soil analyses to plan applications of manure & fertilizers
  • Know how to improve soils on their own farm to improve profitability

Meets YESS scheme training requirements
Eligible businesses can access 80% Farming Connect Funding: 08456 000813
